Thanks, Don. Yes, the “heart” aspect of volunteer work runs quite deep, and I cannot ignore it. And, of course, it’s obvious how deep your “heart” aspect is in all the volunteer work you do, be it for individuals, Return to Honor, Unity of Sedona, or… Thank you for all you do!

Very heartfelt newsletter, Joyce. Glad to hear that you are connecting with the "heart" aspect of volunteer work...which I've always felt deeper in your nature, along with the "Geek" stuff. Service to me is all the stuff you wrote about, primarily having to do with how one "shows up." How deeply and sincerely can one be fully present for someone else...whether or not an actual physical connection is made. Of course, face-to-face, "warm hand to warm hand" is generally preferred because results are often more tangible and visible...however I have found that one-on-one work can also be difficult and sometimes counterproductive...and much less impactful overall. It's essential, of course, and personable, however much of the "geek" stuff in nonprofit work impacts so many more in ways that aren't always evident. It all works for the greater good...whether it be "geek" stuff or driving someone to a clinic or grocery store.
